What Does #BirchBoxatWalgreens Mean for Their Subscription Service?

December 6th will forever be known as #BirchboxatWalgreens Day!

Birchbox has partnered up with Walgreens and Duane Reade to give customers a taste of what Birchbox has to offer in person...and I am loving it! I am lucky enough to live in New York City where they have chosen 3 Walgreen/Duane Reade stores to open a Birchbox section (for now!). I visited the Wall Street location since it was a 5 min. walk from my job.
Let me start off by talking about the vibe and decor of the Birchbox section: It was refreshing. I walk in and am immediately greeted by the Sales Associates and the Build Your Own Box bar (pictured below). Everything was bright, colorful and inviting.

This is where I turned into a little kid at a candy store. I didn't know where to look first - the minis, the walls lined with full-sized products (Yes, you read correctly!), or the free chocolate cookies and cider on the table.
I took a slow and excited tour around the section and then my eyes landed on the coral bench (pictured above) that screamed 'Insta'. I internally screamed when I saw brands like Wander, Stila and Sand & Sky lined up against the wall separated by category.
I peered around the BYOB to spot any faves and I am happy to say I saw a few favorites and new goodies that I am definitely going back for. Are you wondering if the minis will be switched out?
The answer is yes.
I messaged BirchBox on Instagram about this and they gave me the thumbs up that they will be switching out the minis for newer products often. This gives customers a chance to switch up their box if they choose to BYOB on a regular basis.
Aren't into buying beauty products without trying them out first? No big deal here - you can try out the products before buying them!
Here's a closer looks at the goods:

"How will this collaboration affect their subscription service in the long run?"
As I grabbed my double chocolate cookie(s) on the way out, I couldn't help but think of what the future will hold for the subscription service. If things go well, this collaboration will be permanent, according to a Birchbox Rep. on Instagram. The pessimist in me went on an internal rant: If we can create our own box, take a short train ride to purchase the full-sized items, then what's the point of having the subscription for $10/month?
The optimist in me immediately took over. The subscription is more than just about spending $10/month. It's about the giddy feeling of not knowing what's inside, the instant gratification when we see it in the mail and how we feel like it's our birthday when we open it every month.
Birchbox and other beauty subscription services give us something we can't buy - nostalgia.
I will be continuing my subscription service and return to the #BirchboxatWalgreens near me because I can't resist minis and convenience.

I love this! I feel like I rather go to Duane Read to make my birch box only because I tried a subscription service that didn’t always provide items that were useful to me but I really liked your take on unboxing a fun surprise every month!
Loved your first blog post! Can’t wait for more ❤️
